The two fire departments were issued to the home at the far end of Chestnut Ridge Road at around 2:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a house fire. While they were en route, it was reported to be a basement fire and the house was evacuated, according to fire officials.

Bethel Car 1 and Ambulance 1 arrived shortly afterwards and found a couch on fire in the basement. The fire was quickly put out with extinguishers and a hose line from Engine 5. Firefighters spent the next hour removing heavy amounts of smoke from the home.

There were no injuries, and the Bethel Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
