The sightings were reported in the area of Powder Horn Hill Road, Willow Run Road, and Sunset Hill Road — a residential area just east of Route 7 in the southern part of town, police said.

The Brookfield Police Department is taking the opportunity remind residents that black bears live in the area, and that it is not uncommon to see one. In fact, in the past 12 months, a total of 35 black bear sightings have been reported in Brookfield.

Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police asks to those who see a black bear to follow this link to report the sighting.

Some recommended tips if someone does encounter a bear include:

  • Observe it from a distance.
  • Advertise your presence by shouting and waving your arms or walk slowly away.
  • Never attempt to feed or attract bears.
  • Report bear sightings to the Wildlife Division, at (860) 424-3011.
