DANBURY, Conn. -- A 20-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested early Monday and charged with murder in a fatal shooting in Danbury on May 3, police said.
Garfield Sanderson was apprehended at 955 Main St. in Bridgeport by members of the Danbury Police Department Detective Bureau. They were assisted by Bridgeport Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Two handguns were seized from the apartment where he was found, police said.
Sanderson was charged with the murder of Jeliel Kingston and held on $750,000 bond.
Sanderson will be arraigned Monday morning at state Superior Court in Danbury.
Kingston, a 23-year-old man from Bridgeport, was killed after a fight at Mambo Cafe on Elm Street in the downtown area, police said. He was found at 2 a.m. May 3 lying on the sidewalk near a parking lot for the shopping plaza at 301 Main St. He died later at Danbury Hospital from gunshots wounds to his arm and torso, police said.
The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
