A group of people became upset after the victim's friend made comments about two women in the attackers' group, police said.

Officers were called to the area of Maple Avenue and Gregory Street at about 8 p.m. on a report that a man was lying in the street, police said.

The victim told officers he was walking with a friend when they noticed a group of four men and two women in the area, police said.

"His friend, being 'smart,' yelled something to the two females," said Sgt. Kelly Connelly. "The group didn't like it, and they started to chase them. The victim's friend got away, however, he was not so lucky. They tackled him to the ground and beat him up and punched him in the face."

One of the attackers grabbed a chair from a nearby abandoned pile of furniture and struck the victim with it, Connelly said.

The suspects fled in a white Toyota, police said. The victim remembered the license plate number and told officers, police said.

Officers were quickly able to find the vehicle and two suspects, police said. The suspects had blood on their clothes and admitted they were involved in a fracas but said they were defending themselves, police said.

The victim also identified his attackers, police said.

Louis Siguencia, 29, of 65 Lincoln Ave., and Wilson Siguencia, 33, also of 65 Lincoln Ave., were each charged with third-degree assault and third-degree conspiracy to commit assault.

Their court dates were unavailable.

The victim was treated at Stamford Hospital for injuries including sore ribs from being kicked multiple times, Connelly said.

Police are still investigating the attack.
