DANBURY, Conn. -- A 27-year-old Danbury man was arrested after a girl reported to her day-care teacher that she had been hurt after an adult had hit her with an object, police said.

A Danbury day-care center contacted the Department of Children and Families on Monday about the suspected abuse of a child in its care, police said.

The child told her teacher that "Geraldo DaSilva, a person entrusted to care for her when she was not in day care, had hit her with an object, causing injuries to her legs," police said.

DCF and the Danbury Police Department conducted a joint investigation into the allegation.

The Danbury Superior Court issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for DaSilva, police said. He was located and taken into custody by detectives of the Special Victims Unit, police said.

DaSilva was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was released after posting $50,000 bond and was to be arraigned at Danbury Superior Court on Thursday.
