Officers were called to 69 South St. on Wednesday on a report of an assault in process, police said. When officers arrived, they approached William Estevez, 22, who took off running, according to police. Police chased him and were able to take him into custody.

Officers spoke with Felipe Carmo, 19, and learned that he and Estevez live together and had gotten into a fight, police said.

Estevez had come home and confronted Carmo, accusing him of taking money, police said. The two got into a physical altercation, and Carmo hit Estevez in the head with a pipe, according to police reports.

Police said Estevez took off running when officers arrived because he had two outstanding arrest warrants from the Bethel Police Department.

Carmo was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct and held on $2,500 bond. Estevez was charged with interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. He was treated at Danbury Hospital and then held on $2,500 bond.

Estevez was also charged with two Bethel warrants. One was on charges of interfering with a police officer, second-degree failure to appear, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and strangulation. He was held on $5,000 bond. The other warrant was on charges of possession of marijuana, failure to pay or plead, and second-degree failure to appear.
