Danbury Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting 13-Year-Old

DANBURY, Conn. -- A Danbury man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, according to Danbury police.

The Danbury Police Department received information on Aug. 30 that Nelson Cassiano, 64, had abused the 13-year-old child, police said. Following an investigation into the complaint, the department issued an arrest warrant for Cassiano on Sept. 23, said Danbury Police Det. Roger Hancock. 

Cassiano was taken into custody by members of the Special Victims Unit of the Danbury Police. He was charged with sexual assault, risk of injury and risk of injury/sexual contact. He is being held at the Danbury Police Department on $200,000 bond, Hancock added. 

This is the fourth arrest for sexual abuse or assault in Danbury within the past two weeks. In the other cases Baltazar Lopez, 55, of Danbury was charged with the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old boy, Carlos Samaniego-Ortega, 22, also of Danbury, was charged with exposing himself to a 9-year-old girl during a party, and Victor Handel, 72, was charged on Sept. 16 with sexual contact with a 9-year-old girl in 2010.
