Danbury Man Faces Assault Charges After Attack In Store Parking Lot

DANBURY, Conn. -- A Danbury man faces assault and other charges after an altercation Tuesday on Main Street in Danbury.

Gregory Nelson, 29, was charged with assault, breach of peace and intimidation based on bigotry and bias after the dispute, police said.

Officers responded to an assault in progress at 35 Main St. at Price Rite, police said. A male victim told officers that Nelson was playing street hockey in the parking lot and assaulted him, police said.

As officers were talking to the victim, Nelson began to scream, yell, curse and make derogatory statements, police said. Officers tried to speak to Nelson but he continued to make derogatory statements, police said.

Witnesses told the officers that the victim pulled into the parking lot and got out of his vehicle. At that point Nelson started yelling and screaming at the victim to move his vehicle, police said. Nelson then punched the victim several times while yelling at the victim to go back to his country, police said.

Nelson was being held on $1,000 bond.
