Mario A. DePaz-Espino, 29, was charged after he was stopped at 4 a.m. on Route 6 in Southeast for a traffic violation, police said.

The deputy determined that De Paz-Espino was intoxicated after he failed a series of field sobriety tests, Smith said.

De Paz-Espino is being held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility until his court appearance.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, he faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
