Anthony Ramos, who joined the Danbury police force in 2012, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, police said. Ramos is a resident of Pawling, N.Y.
“Due to the seriousness of the charges and to protect the integrity of the Danbury Police Department, Ramos was immediately relieved of duty and placed on paid administrative leave,” Danbury police said in a statement. “The Danbury Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit is conducting a concurrent internal investigation.”
A Danbury police official told the Daily Voice that Ramos was a good employee. The department has reported no problems with him or complaints about him, he said.
The Poughkeepsie Journal reported that sheriff’s deputies were called to Arthursburg Road in LaGrange, N.Y., on Friday on a report of a larceny from a vehicle.
A further investigation linked Ramos and another individual to the reported larceny, along with others in the area, the Journal reported.
Both were taken into custody at the scene and released on tickets requiring a court appearance, the Journal reported.
Before serving as a police officer, Ramos was a patient access associate/financial liaison with Danbury Hospital, according to a letter to City Council members before his appointment in 2012.
Ramos attended Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, where he completed coursework in justice and law administration, according to the letter.
