DANBURY, Conn. - Danbury police were called to the Blue Sky Behavioral offices on Federal Road on Monday to help with a patient who was barricading himself in a room, Danbury police said.
A 26-year-old man barricaded himself in a room by pushing items up against the door and reinforcing it from the inside, police said. When officers arrived shortly after 2 p.m., the man became very agitated and said he would set fire to the room, police said.
The building was quickly evacuated, police said, and the Emergency Services Units and Crisis Negotiation Team were called to the scene. Officers were able to establish contact with the man and urged him to leave the room, police said.
After an hour, the man became increasingly agitated, damaging the room and attempting to set the room on fire, police said.
At that point, officers forced their way into the room and subdued the man, police said. He was taken to the Danbury Hospital Emergency Room for evaluation.
