DANBURY, Conn. -- Two men were arrested on multiple drug charges on George Street in Danbury after they acted suspiciously during a police surveillance of another suspect, police said.
On Wednesday, members of the Danbury Police Department’s Special Investigations Division were conducting a surveillance before executing court-authorized search-and-seizure warrants in regard to drug trafficking in the George and Orchard streets area.
Officers spotted a car that was being operated in a suspicious manner, which was later learned to be operated by Todd Cooper, 22, of 9 Boardman Terrace, New Milford, police said.
Cooper parked on George Street in the same manner previous car operators had when buying illegal drugs, police said. After 15 minutes, Cooper was approached by a man later identified as Darrin Sheppard, 22, of 8 E. Pearl St., Danbury, police said.
Sheppard got into the car, and officers followed as they drove away but lost sight of it, police said.
Later, Cooper and Sheppard returned to George Street as officers were executing a warrant at an apartment, police said.
As Sheppard moved to get out of the car but stopped, officers approached, police said. Officers smelled burnt marijuana and could see marijuana within Cooper’s car, police said.
Further investigation revealed that Cooper was in possession of marijuana packaged for sale and other contraband related to drug sales, police said.
Cooper was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 5 ounces, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school. He was released on $500 bond.
Sheppard was issued an infraction on a charge of posssesion of a controlled substance and released at the scene.
On Wednesday, Danbury police also arrested a suspected drug dealer who was working out of an apartment on George Street. Read about that arrest here on the Daily Voice.
