Danbury Woman Crashes While Trying To Flee Traffic Stop

DANBURY, Conn. — A Danbury woman who nearly hit a police cruiser head-on then drove off during the traffic stop was arrested after crashing into a fence, according to the News-Times.

Bianca Marie Cruz veered into the other lane of Lake Avenue about 11 p.m. Friday, nearly hitting a police cruiser, then ran a red light, police told the News-Times.

The officer pulled over Cruz and smelled marijuana as she opened the window, the News-Times said. When asked to step out of the car, Cruz drove off, nearly dragging the officer with her car, the News-Times said.

Cruz crashed into a fence near Merrimac Street, then got out of the car and ran, the News-Times said. She was found hiding behind bushes, the News-Times said.

Cruz was charged with running a red light, reckless driving, evading the scene of an accident, engaging in a police pursuit, possession of marijuana, possession of drugs less than 1,500 feet from a housing complex, possession of drug paraphernalia and interfering with police, the News-Times said. She was held on $2,500 bond.
