DANBURY, Conn. — A driver had to be extricated from a car after crashing into a building early Thursday on West Street near downtown Danbury, firefighters said.

At about 4:20 a.m., Danbury Fire, Police, and EMS Units were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on West Street near Oil Mill Road.

A small car had left the roadway, struck the building at 152 West St. and landed in bushes, firefighters said.

Firefighters were needed to gain access and extricate the single occupant from the vehicle. The patient was transferred to the care of City of Danbury EMS and then transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance.

The patient's condition was unknown Thursday morning.

Fire Department units remained on the scene to support the accident investigation conducted by the Danbury Police Department.

The Fire Department units cleared the scene at 5:30 a.m.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Oil Mill Road, Westville Avenue and West Street (where it changes name to Lake Avenue).
