Fairfield police opened an investigation in September and found that English teacher Glenn Mishuck, of Bridgeport, had a sexual relationship with a female student under the age of 18 from July to September, police said.
Officers uncovered text messages between Mishuck and the student that supported the case, police said. At that point, officers determined that Mishuck had engaged in at least 17 encounters with the victim, police said.
Fairfield Police Youth Bureau Detective Beth Irizarry was assigned to the case by the prosecutor's office because it was an investigation between a Fairfield student and a town employee.
The investigation included numerous interviews and the collection of electronic evidence, police said.
Irizarry completed an arrest warrant application, which was granted and returned to the Fairfield Police Department on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
On Thursday, Oct. 31, Mishuck went to police headquarters and was charged with 17 counts of second-degree sexual assault.
He was held on $150,000 bond and transported to court Thursday morning after turning himself in to police. He was given a court date of Nov. 12.
