The accident was reported at about 3:10 a.m. Monday, March 30, near the intersection with Burroughs Road.

The passenger vehicle was heavily damaged and the driver was trapped inside, said Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola.

Fairfield police officers secured and stabilized the scene while firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate the 27-year-old driver, Gomola said.

He was transported to the hospital by AMR ambulance for treatment.

The driver of the truck was not injured and declined medical treatment.

"Fairfield PD did a great job of securing and stabilizing the scene prior to our arrival, allowing firefighters quick access to the victim," Gomola said in a statement. "Under the direction of Lt. [Frank] Eannotti, fire rescue crews used hydraulic rescue tools to gain access to the victim and quickly remove him from the heavily damaged vehicle. This was a job well done by all."

The incident was deemed under control by 3:30 a.m. Fairfield Engines 2,3, L1, L2 and C-3 responded.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Fairfield Police Department.
