Fire crews knocked the fire down quickly, limiting most of the damage to the kitchen area of the apartment. The other three apartments in the building did not sustain damage, said Mark Omasta, assistant chief, public information officer for the department.
The four adults, and one infant living in the apartment, were able to get out before firefighters arrived. No one was injured.
Red Cross officials are working to find temporary housing for the residents until their apartment can be repaired, Omasta said.
The cause of the kitchen fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Division.
