At about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, April 2, officers went to Ingersoll Auto of Danbury at 84 Federal Road on a report of an assault.
The victim was found standing outside the building with facial injuries, police said. The victim said he was attacked by a co-worker after a dispute over construction on the building, police said.
Officers went into the building to locate the suspect, who was found in an unfinished room that was under construction, police said.
The suspect, identified as Douglas C. Cooke, 45, of Oxford, was asked to walk to officers so they could speak with him, police said. Cooke refused all their commands, including commands to drop the pliers and sheetrock knife he was using, police said.
A struggle ensued between Cooke and the officers, and one of the officers suffered a laceration from the knife, police said.
Cooke was taken into custody after a struggle and transported to the Danbury Police Department, where he was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering/resisting arrest, second-degree assault and third-degree assault.
He was released after posting $15,000 bond.
The officer was treated at Danbury Hospital for the cut, which required several stitches, and was released.
