DANBURY, Conn. – Police arrested a New Milford man around 1 a.m. Thursday after observing him drive erratically on Newtown Road in Danbury.
Police saw Walter Acevedo, 37, of New Milford, cross the center lane more than once, and when they attempted to pull him over with lights and sirens, he refused to stop and kept driving at a slow speed, police said. After several minutes of slow pursuit, Acevedo stopped at the intersection of Wildman and Triangle streets. Police said he was on his cell phone and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath when they approached him.
Acevedo was charged with driving under the influence, engaging in a pursuit, reckless driving, failure to drive right, operating under suspension, failure to obey traffic control signal, operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone, three counts of failure to obey a stop sign and failure to carry an insurance card, police said.
He was held on a $10,000 bond.
