According to Newtown police, John McGrath, 22, was spotted on the bridge by an officer working lake patrol on Lake Zoar. When the officer stopped McGrath, he was uncooperative and gave the officer a fake name, police said.

According to Sgt. Aaron Bahamonde, McGrath was drunk and was climbing the bridge with plans to jump in the water.

After an investigation, the officer was able to identify McGrath and determine that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Milford, police said.

In addition to trespassing, McGrath was also charged with interfering and failure to appear. He was held on $15,000 bond and was set to appear Monday in Danbury Superior Court.
