Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Vehicle On Merritt Parkway

A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed Friday night after being hit by a vehicle on the Merritt Parkway, state police announced Saturday morning.

Mark Benardi of New Haven was walking on the right shoulder on the southbound side in the area of Exit 61 in Hamden when he was struck by 58-year-old Robert O'Connor of the Town of Fairfield at around 11:20 p.m.

Troopers found Benardi in the median and the vehicle in the right shoulder when they arrived at the scene. Benardi was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is currently being investigated by state police.
