DANBURY, Conn. — A Danbury man was arrested after he slammed his car into a restaurant, fled on foot, reported the car stolen in another town and then showed up in the lobby of Danbury Police headquarters causing a disturbance, police said.

At about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, officers responded to the report of a crash at Division Street at West Wooster Street, police said.

Witnesses said a Subaru traveling east on Wooster crossed the lanes and struck the side of Pio Pio Restaurant at 1 Division St., police said.

The male driver fled the scene on foot, wearing a white shirt and red shorts, witnesses told police.

Shortly after the accident, Ward called the Brookfield police to report his vehicle had been stolen, Danbury police said.

A while later, several officers responded to the lobby of the Danbury Police headquarters for a disturbance. Ward was now in the lobby —  wearing the same white shirt and red shorts from the crash — and "immediately became belligerent, yelling and swearing," police said.

Ward was arrested and charged with breach of peace, interfering with police duties, evading responsibility, and failure to drive right.

During processing, officers found crack cocaine in his possession, police said. Ward was additionally charged with possession Of crack and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

He was released on $25,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 15.
