Police: Danbury Market Owner Accidentally Slams Car Into Building

DANBURY, Conn. -- A Danbury store owner slammed his Mercedes into the side of his own business on Germantown Road, causing heavy damage to the building and car, according to the Danbury Police.

The owner of Jimmie's Market slammed his car into the side of the business early Tuesday when he hit the gas instead of the brakes.

Danbury police said Mohan Sharma, 71, of Danbury, drove into the side of Jimmie's Market at about 4:50 a.m. Tuesday. Officers believe he pressed on the gas pedal when he intended to use the brakes, police said.

Sharma was not injured during the incident. The Danbury Fire Department responded to the accident, as well as the City of Danbury Building Department to make sure the building was safe to occupy, police said.
