DANBURY, Conn. -- Anonymous complaints led to a Danbury liquor store being busted for selling alcohol to teens in the area, according to the Danbury Police Department.

After receiving the complaints about the New Pembroke Package Store, the business was investigated by members of the Danbury Special Investigations Division, Community Conditions Unit and the state Department of Consumer Protection, according to police.

On March 4, police conducted a surveillance of the store and witnessed three people who appeared under the age of 21 purchasing alcohol and leaving the store, police said. After being stopped by officers, it was determined they all were using false identifications and were in fact 17- and 18-years-old, police said.

The three were issued infractions and their parents were notified, according to police.

Following the sale, officers with the Department of Consumer Protection interviewed the manager of the business and will be following up with possible administrative action in the near future, police said.

It is likely all the teens will lose their license under state law which says that drivers under 21-years-old face a mandatory suspension of their license for illegally purchasing or possessing alcohol, in addition, they could receive fines of $200 to $500.
