John O'Donnell Underwood, 22, of Wilton, was taken into custody around 2:18 p.m. Saturday, after Wilton police responded to a report of a rollover crash on Grumman Hill Road, said Lt. Robert Kluk.

When officers responded Underwood had fled the scene and then later returned after running through the woods, said Kluk.

While talking with police, Underwood admitted to drinking alcohol a short time before the crash was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, Kluk said.

He was charged with operating under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to keep right in a curve and traveling too fast for conditions.

Underwood was released on $260 bond.
