Officers from the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched to Cosmetic Boutique on Elm Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, where a manager reported that a woman had been caught putting several items into a black bag she was carrying before leaving the store without paying.

Police said that surveillance video captured Isette Brendza, 54, paying for one item with a credit card, though she failed to pay for $320 in merchandise that was in the black bag. With the assistance of the New Canaan Police Investigative Unit, Brendza was identified as the suspect, and she was later positively identified by staff members at the boutique.

On Friday, Brendza came to the New Canaan Police Department to surrender herself into custody. She was charged with a misdemeanor count of sixth-degree larceny and released on her own recognizance. She is due back in New Canaan Justice Court on April 4 to answer the charge.
