The first fire was reported at about 9:41 a.m. Friday at 10 Halliwell Drive.
The Stamford Fire Department and Turn of River Fire Department responded, and crews were met by a heavy smoke condition in the home, according to a fire department statement.
The crew from Rescue 1 located a basement fire in the two-story residence. Using portable fire extinguishers and a hose line from the first arriving engine on scene (Engine 9), fire crews confined the fire to that area, the statement said.
The fire appeared to have been started by a dehumidifier in the basement, but the cause was under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s office.
The home sustained serious smoke damage.
No firefighters or civilians were injured, and no one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
The home had functioning smoke detectors that were monitored by an alarm company. Firefighters credit the functioning alarm system and an alert neighbor with minimizing damage from the blaze.
The second fire was reported at 7:26 p.m. in a condo at 38 Connecticut Ave., the statement said.
Companies from Stamford Fire Departments West Side station along with units from the Woodside and South End stations were dispatched.
The fire started in the dryer and extended into the wash room. Upon arrival, Engine 3 and Truck 3 found smoke pushing from the front door, the statement said.
As crews began to stretch hose lines, Truck 3 discovered the fire had started on the backside of the condominium unit.
Engine 3 deployed their hose line, while Engine 5 provided a water supply from the hydrant.
Members of Truck 3 and Rescue 1 began searched the building for occupants, but no one was found.
Firefighters discovered both occupants had already exited the structure.
The fire is still under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office.
