Bertin Lazaro, 31, of 425 W. Main St., was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief.

Police said Lazaro was told to leave the cafe at 475 W. Main St. after causing a disturbance shortly before midnight. He left but returned about 10 minutes later with eight empty beer bottles and tossed them at the cafe's two front doors, police Sgt. Kelly Connelly said.

Lazaro ran from the scene but returned a second time carrying a bag filled with six or seven more beer bottles, which he threw against the front doors, police said.

He fled but staff members chased him to his nearby residence, police said. One employee suffered a small cut during the incident, Connelly said.

When officers arrived, they found Lazaro holding a bloody cloth up to his face, police said.

"He had blood smeared all over his face, arms and chest," Connelly said.

It wasn't known how he suffered the cut that led to the loss of blood, Connelly said.

"A very, very intoxicated" Lazaro told police at the hospital that he didn't know anything about the bottle throwing and that two men chased him from the cafe as he was leaving and assaulted him, Connelly said.

Another witness at the cafe said no one had assaulted Lazaro and had only held him until officers arrived, police said.

Also, a surveillance video from the cafe showed Lazaro throwing beer bottles at the door and the lobby of the cafe, Connelly said.
