DANBURY, Conn. — The driver of a stolen car that rolled over and crashed on a Mountainville Road front lawn has been identified as Ricardo Andre, 32, of Danbury, state police said.

An off-duty Danbury police officer was in pursuit of the stolen 1997 Ford Explorer on Thursday when the vehicle crashed at about 10:50 a.m. at the intersection of Mountainville and Mountain roads, according to Connecticut State Police.

Andre struck a road sign and a utility pole before traveling across a private driveway at 13 Mountainville Road and rolling over the vehicle across the lawn, according to Connecticut State Police.

The crash ejected Andre's passenger from the vehicle, and both were left with serious injuries, according to the Danbury Police Department. The passenger, an unidentified woman, was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

A Danbury Police Officer working an extra-duty job in the area of Main Street and Center Street saw the 1997 Ford Explorer and knew it had been stolen, according to a previous Daily Voice story .

The driver took off after the officer approached him at about 10:35 a.m., and the off-duty officer followed him in his own vehicle, police said.

The Connecticut State Police is conducting the investigation into the crash, and the Danbury Police Department will be conducting an internal investigation, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or the moments prior to the crash sequence is asked to contact Trooper First Class Gregory Trahan of the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 860-779-4917 or gregory.trahan@ct.gov.

The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit was assisted at the scene by members of Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Unit,  Troop A and the Danbury Police Department.
