A Danbury man was quickly nabbed after an attempted robbery Monday of a travel agency on Elm Street, according to Danbury police.

Daniel Christopher, 39, of 9 Foster St. was arrested for criminal attempt to commit robbery, threatening, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, following the attempted robbery at Valentin Travel, said Det. Lt. Mark Williams.

The robbery took place around 7:30 p.m. when Christopher entered the business, jumped over the counter and demanded that the woman working open the cash register, Williams said.

As Christopher violently struggled to force the cash register open, the woman was able to run out of the business, he added.

Before doing so, she could hear the male yelling for her to give him the key to the register and threatening to kill her if she did not do so. When she reached the street she yelled for help and was assisted by a male bystander, Williams added.

When Christopher exited the business in pursuit of the woman, he quickly ran off when he saw she was being assisted. While he was able to flee the area before the arrival of the police, he was positively identified when officers reviewed the business surveillance video, which captured the incident, police said.

Several hours later, around 10 p.m., investigating officers were able to apprehend Christopher when he returned to his home The officers initiated a surveillance of his residence shortly after the incident and simply waited for him to return.

When confronted by officers, Christopher resisted arrest and had to be forcefully overpowered before submitting to their authority. He was later released from the police department after posting a $10,000. Bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 22.
