Andrew “Moe” Parra, 24, of 35-37 Webb St., Waterbury, was under surveillance as part of a drug investigation by a joint task force that included members of the Danbury Police Department's Special Investigation Division, with assistance from the Community Conditions Unit and Patrol Division. A member of the surveillance team began to follow Parra in an unmarked police vehicle based on previous outstanding warrants for selling narcotics and various motor vehicle offenses, police said.
Parra drove to a home on Franklin Street and entered the residence, police said. Officers attempted to stop Parra when he left the home, but he began to flee in his car, police said.
Officers began a short pursuit that ended when it was clear that Parra did not intend to obey the emergency signals of a marked patrol unit and instead rapidly accelerated and sped off, police said.
But about 15 minutes after discontinuing the pursuit of Parra and his vehicle, the Danbury Police Department was notified by State Police that a vehicle matching the description of Parra’s had crashed on Route 7 north in Brookfield, police said.
When members of SID and CCU responded to the crash location, they found members of the Brookfield Fire Department attempting to extricate Parra from his vehicle, police said.
Authorities believe Parra lost control of his vehicle in his attempt to evade capture and crashed without striking another vehicle, police said.
As a result of the extensive injuries he sustained in the crash, Parra was transported to Danbury Hospital and later sent to the Westchester Medical Center for specialized care and treatment, police said.
Parra was issued a written promise to appear in court at a later date and time on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, engaging in pursuit and reckless driving that will be pursued, police said.
Police said a warrant application will be sent to state Superior Court so that Parra can be charged at a later date and time.
