Jose Gregory Charon, 31, also known as "Yoshi," was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, and Michael J. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England.
On April 9, the Danbury Police Department responded to a local home on a report of an untimely death of a woman. Police collected evidence from the scene, including three cellphones, a bottle of methadone, and an empty glassine bag marked with a particular brand stamp, according to Daly.
The office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that the woman had died the day before as a result of a methadone and benzodiazepine (Xanax) overdose.
In May, investigators made two controlled purchases of heroin from Charon, and that several bags of heroin purchased were marked with the same brand stamp that was found on the empty bag in the overdose victim's home, Daly said.
Charon appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Bridgeport on Tuesday and was ordered detained. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison, Daly said.
