Two Women Charged In Danbury Mall Shoplifting Incident

DANBURY, Conn. – Two young women were were charged with shoplifting at the Danbury Fair Mall on Sunday and one of them was also charged with assaulting a police officer who was trying to arrest them, police said.

The incident began when the women, later identified as Kimberly Mier, 18, of Brewster, N.Y., and a 17-year-old juvenile, were accused of shoplifting by a Sears employee, Detective Lt. Tom Micheal said.

Mier allegedly hit the employee with a metal jug and the women fled the store, Michael said.

A witness told police the women were in the food court, and when police tried to apprehend them, Mier allegedly began to punch one of the officers and shout profanities, sexual innuendos and claims of police brutality, Michael said. The items taken from Sears were valued at $140, Michael said.

Mier was charged with assaulting a police officer, interfering with the duties of a police officer, breach of peace, fourth-degree larceny and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, police said. The 17-year-old was charged with breach of peace, fourth-degree larceny and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.

Mier was held on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12, police said. The juvenile was released on a written promise to appear in court Dec. 12, Michael said.
