Wilton Man Charged With DUI After Accident Across Street From Police HQ

The incident began at about 3 a.m. Aug. 18 when an officer noticed a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier make a U-turn at the entrance of the railroad station on Danbury Road, police said. The car drove over the double yellow lines as it continued south on Danbury Road, and the officer also saw it weave in the southbound lanes, police said.

Before the officer could pull over the vehicle, it turned toward the driveway of 237 Danbury Road but struck guide wires for a utility pole, police said. 237 Danbury Road is just across the street from the police station.

The man got out and demanded a breath test, said Lt. Donald Wakeman. The driver was told that those tests are done at police headquarters and not on the roadways, police said. But when he was taken back to the police station, he refused to provide a breath sample, police said.

John Mancusi, 23, of 12 Woodchuck Lane, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in a proper lane, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in court Thursday.
