DANBURY, Conn. -- Republican Mayor Mark Boughton will not face a party-backed opponent this fall, virtually guaranteeing him his eighth term in office in Danbury, according to the Danbury News-Times.

City Democrats failed to choose a mayoral candidate at their convention Monday night, the story said.

The Democrats’ decision to focus on candidates for other offices may not mean Boughton will be unopposed in the November election, the story said.

When Democrats didn't have a nominee two years ago, former City Council member Paul McAllister petitioned his way onto the ballot but was defeated 7,400 to 3,100.
