A whip's role is typically to help shape public policy, influence fellow party lawmakers, and make certain party House members are in attendance to cast their votes on legislative issues.

“I look forward to working with my fellow legislators, and across the aisle, to find common sense solutions to important state issues affecting our state.” Giegler said in a statement.

Having served in the state House since 2002, Giegler also announced her legislative committee assignments for her newest two-year term.

She will serve on the Transportation, Public Safety and Security, Executive and Legislative Nominations and Internship Committees.

The Transportation Committee  covers all matters connected to the Department of Transportation. This typically includes highways and bridges, navigation, aeronautics, mass transit and railroads, and the State Traffic Commission and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Public Safety and Security Committee covers matters relating to the Department of Public Safety.

These matters could include homeland security, state police, state organized task force on crime, municipal police training, fire marshals, the fire safety code and the state building code, civil preparedness and legalized gambling, and military and veterans' affairs, except veterans' pensions.

The Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee deals with the process of nominations for the position of various department heads.

The committee also deals with all executive and legislative nominations requiring action from either or both chambers, save for judicial nominations.

Nominations of workers' compensation commissioners and nominations of members of the Board of Pardons and Paroles are also under the committee's watch.

The Internship Committee aims to provide educational opportunities not usually open to students, along with familiarizing students with the formal and informal elements of the legislative process.
