Scribner (R-107) is the ranking member of the Transportation Committee. The budget includes a "sizable increase of mandatory and discretionary transportation funds, up from $77 billion last fiscal year to $91 billion," according to the update from Scribner.
“The way federal government prioritizes transportation funding has a significant impact on state subsidies, having deep implications for our transportation infrastructure,” Scribner said in a release. “I am encouraged by the proposed increases to support transportation infrastructure and mass transit improvements, and hope those dollars trickle down to Connecticut.”
The following are some of Scribner's notable transportation budget items, according to a release:
- Increase of transit spending from just under $9 billion to about $14 billion
- Requirement of $5 billion for the Federal Railroad Administration – a vast increase over the $1.6 billion appropriated the previous fiscal year
- Inclusion of rail accounts under a newly configured Transportation Trust Fund
- Removal of Amtrak from the annual appropriations process, to be folded into trust fund programs
- Creation of infrastructure investment bonds
