The delegation will be led by House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) and will learn about issues critical to international security and U.S.-Israeli relations. The group will depart on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and return Monday, Aug. 10.

“I look forward to this opportunity to hear first-hand from key Israeli and Palestinian leaders about issues facing the region and engage in critical activities to better understand the U.S.-Israel relationship,” said Esty, who represents the Fifth District, which includes Danbury. “We have a significant Jewish population in Connecticut and this trip will help us learn about how we can further strengthen this key relationship.”

The representatives will meet with key Israeli and Palestinian officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. They will also meet with U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro and military officials. In addition, the delegation will visit important historical and cultural sites, such as the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, and participate in activities with a delegation of Republic House colleagues in Israel on a trip led by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The trip is organized by the American Israel Education Foundation.
