"No mayor has ever been nominated for an eighth term, and we are able to do that because Mark Boughton appeals to Democrats and independents,” said Michael Safranek, chairman of the Danbury Republican Town Committee. “There may be no surprises, but people are euphoric in their support for Mark Boughton, so there is still fervor and excitement in the room,” the News-Times reported

Democrats will have their convention Monday with an uphill battle to follow. They will be taking on one of the most powerful Republicans in the state and trying to take seats back in the City Council where they only hold six of 21 total, the News-Times reported.
