Obama, who was in Greenwich on Tuesday for a private fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, will appear with Malloy at a rally Wednesday evening in Bridgeport, the largest city in the state, Hearst said.

Hearst said its source was a person familiar with the planning of the event speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to announce the details.

The White House is expected to formally announce the visit Thursday afternoon, Hearst said.

In the Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, Foley and Malloy are in a dead heat, with 43 percent of the vote each.

Malloy beat Foley by a narrow 6,400 votes in 2010, but won 81 of the vote in Bridgeport.

In March, Malloy appeared with Obama at a rally to raise the minimum wage at Central Connecticut State University. They also at lunch together at a local spot that day. Obama praised Malloy for his work to raise the minimum wage in Connecticut.
