About 48 percent of Connecticut voters in the poll said they approved of the way Malloy has been doing his job, compared to 39 percent who disapproved. Malloy’s approval rating rose five points since the last Quinnipiac poll on March 6, the university said.

The state legislature did not fare as well. In the same poll 47 percent said they did not like the way the state legislature was doing its job, compared to 38 percent who approved. Republicans in the statehouse (32 percent approval) polled worse than Democrats (44 percent approval) among all voters.

Voters in the poll especially liked Malloy’s leadership in a crisis. About 76 percent said they approved of his handling of the Sandy Hook School shooting, and 80 percent said they liked his work during the major blizzard last month. Respondents did not like Malloy’s policies on the state budget (57 percent disapprove), taxes (61 percent disapprove) or the economy (56 percent disapprove).

"Connecticut voters say Gov. Dannel Malloy is a good man to have in a crisis and give him very high grades for his response to recent crises in the state," Douglas Schwartz director of the Quinnipiac University poll, said in a press release. "On the day-to-day issues of governing, such as budget, taxes and the economy, he gets failing grades."

Adam Droit:

tax and spend to no end.

Ken P Jr:

I see 82% dissaproval. But the truth is never something a Democrat is concerned with.

DavidA:

Hmmm 48% approve - that figure sounds awfully familiar.....

DavidA:

The poll on the statehouse shows how out of touch the people responding to the poll are - who do they think is running the State House and making all the pitiful decisions that have led this state to the condition it is in? Its not the Republicans - they have little or no say in anything that gets done. The poll should ask if the responders even know which party is in charge.

Mr Norwalk CT:

I guess you forgot abort Rell who created the mess.. You must be theTypical senile Republican.

Pony Tail Steve:

WRONG Timmy, go back a little further. Republicans did not want to give away mortgages to anyone that could sign. Democrats did.
Stop making stuff up

john.real.956:

WOW STEVIE
You really seem to be coming un-hindged once again with this Timmy is he an ex gay lover of yours

DavidA:

I guess you forgot about who's passed the budgets that created this mess and it started long before Rell. She, Rowland and all the others deserve equal blame or in your parlance "credit" for the great state of our economy and fiscal health.

bostonbornandbred:

I agree that he inherited a mess form Rell (and the heavily Democratic legislature, just as importantly), but "He is cutting taxes for the middle class" is so demonstrably untrue that it's hard to believe anybody could type that. His 2011 tax increases were in virtually every area, including both an increase in the percentage of the sales tax and its applicability to lower price items that were previously exempt. This is very regressive as it affects the poorest the most. There are many, many more examples, literally hundreds and they affect almost everyone. He did not in the aggregate cut taxes for anyone; he did lower but not eliminate the deficit by raising several billion in additional tax revenues and not just from "the rich". And now the deficit will go up again unless he raises taxes again. And his proposal to eliminate the motor vehicle tax (not paid to the state) would mean that towns would raise their taxes to make up the difference - not a tax cut at all, but a reelection ploy. He is not willing to face the reality that state government must be substantially revamped for the betterment of all. CT has the highest unemployment rate in New England and is uncompetitive with its neighbors in about every way. Look it up!! And Malloy just plays old time politics.
This state is in tough shape, people who can leave are leaving for financial reasons, not quality of life. We should be leaders and we are sadly not. Businesses do not want to locate here unless they are bribed. The only thing that keeps us afloat is our proximity to the New York financial markets.

Mr Norwalk CT:

Amazing how the Republicans attempt to manipulate the truth of the FACT that Malloy is doing a good job..
Thank you governor Malloy for cutting taxes to the middle class starting with the car tax and for fixing the mess that Rell created.

Ken P Jr:

Are you serious? Think about it. Cutting the car tax sounds good. Until you realize that in a city like Norwalk its the ONLY tax many people pay. If you own a home here YOUR taxes will go up to make up the difference. Malloy gave a tax break to the Democrats largest support group, the welfare class. At least with car taxes those leaches pay SOMETHING, now the free ride is complete. In addition, if even a fraction of the absurd liberal gun proposals become law taxes will have to go up to fund the new bureaucracies created to administer things like registration , increased need for background checks, increased personnel to deal with millions of new permits if we get a long gun permit. To put it simply the man is a buffoon of the highest order.

Tim T:

The issue for Norwalk is not Malloy cutting the car tax .The issue is the tax and spend Republican that is mayor.

Pony Tail Steve:

WRONG

.jrey:

Troll Steve do you even live in Norwalk??
Afraid as usual you are the one that's wrong

Pony Tail Steve:

WRONG AGAIN TIMMY

Ken P Jr:

78% see through Malloy's BS. What is it with Democrats that they always blame Republicans for their shortcomings. Rell should have been a Democrat anyway but the FACT of the matter is that our state is where it is because of consistent Democratic representation for DECADES. NOBODYs taxes have gone down under Malloy. Unless you lost everything and are now on welfare.
We NEED to change our state govt & electing more liberal democrats is NOT change.

bostonbornandbred:

What can the 48% be thinking?!!?

john.real.956:

The 48 percent are seeing the truth that he is doing a great job

Drewt008:

I'm just curious how much more he can tax us? He is not a leader! Why doesn't he come down to Norwalk and listen to the residents about what his tax increases have done, how much of a joke the ECS formula is and what would happen if he removes the car tax..I can't wait until he is out of office.

john.real.956:

Drew
You seem to be a but confused..He is cutting taxes for the middle class. What is it with you Republicans and the same old same old washed out lines that no once is buying any longer..Well maybe a few fools are buying the lies..We will see.

LAP:

John what taxes have you seen go down? I certainly haven't seen my taxes drop, and I'm as middle class as you can get. I'm interested in knowing where I should be looking for these tax cuts because if there should have been some, I'm obviously getting ripped off.

For the record before you spout your same old line, I'm not a Republican. I'm a registered Democrat and always have been.

.jrey:

The governor is doing a fantastic job considering the mess he inherited from the Republican Rell.
