Scribner spoke as part of a guest lecture series in the school’s political science department. The students of “World Governments, Economies and Culture,” taught by Adjunct Professor Scott Benjamin, listened as Scribner provided an overview of legislation facing the General Assembly this year, before asking a series of questions they developed for the legislator, according to a release. Scribner represents the northeastern portion of Danbury.
Topics of discussion included the proposed state budget, the state’s Small Business Express program, the Board of Regents for Higher Education and the Governor’s First Five program.
“These students wowed me with the complexity of their thinking, and their nuanced understanding of the relationship between the health of Connecticut’s economy and state government,” Scribner said. “As soon-to-be graduates who are anxious about finding employment, their feedback was meaningful as we talked about how policies – particularly the minimum wage increase – will impact hiring across our state. Thank you to Professor Benjamin and the students for inviting me to engage in such an important exchange.”
WCSU Adjunct Professor Scott Benjamin thanked Scribner for sharing his insight into the state economy.
“I don't take it for granted,” Benjamin said. “Over the final 20 minutes of class we did a discussion group project on the minimum wage legislation and each of the five groups agreed with your position on the issue.”
