Danbury accounted for a swing of 2,337 votes for Malloy as the city shifted from a huge backing for Republican Tom Foley to a solid city for Malloy, the Courant said.

One big difference from 2010? Popular Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton was Foley's running mate that year, the Courant said.

The Danbury area’s swing could be part of a larger pattern based on the improved economy in the city, the Courant said. Just days before the election, Malloy visited Danbury to announce that Praxair would build a new world headquarters in the city.
