The program, operated in collaboration with The ViiBE Dance Center’s REACH OUT & ViiBE project, began on Friday with 82 students from Fairview’s public schools and Our Lady of Grace, grades 4-8, Police Chief Frank DelVecchio said today.

It has the backing of Mayor Vincent Bellucci and the Fairview Council, as well as Schools Supt. Louis DeLisio and the Fairview Board of Education, and administrators at Our Lady of Grace School, where the program is held each Friday from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for our department to continue to build a strong, positive relationship with our youth and to foster an atmosphere that is fun for our kids,” DeIVecchio said.

Father Peter Sticco, pastor at Our Lady of Grace Church, said it is also “another way for our Catholic Church community to give back and become involved.”

“Any chance that we can collaborate with the police department and develop new and educational programs for our students as well as parents is definitely going to benefit our schools and the community,” DeLisio added.

The Fairview Police Department under the direction of Chief Frank DelVecchio announce the first annual Bicycle Safety Event. The event is being sponsored by McDonald’s located at 289 Bergen Blvd, Fairview.

Michaels is also providing the entertainment for a May 16 bicycle safety event sponsored by M

cDonalds and Fairview police through Detective Gino Sculco and the the department’s Community Policing Division. It will include tips, helmet inspections and food. The sponsors are also giving out “Caught Doing Something Good” gift cards to kids who police spot doing something positive for themselves, their family or the community (such as: wearing a bicycle helmet, cleaning litter, etc.).

Reach Out, Inc. has sponsored a variety of charitable programs and events, including Reach ut with the Nets, Reach Out with the Jets, and the SMART T Programs.

It’s co-founder and president — known for her edgy, highly-charged productions — is one of the primary producers, hostesses and performers. When she was 10, her mother began taking Michaels to dance classes in Manhattan, where, she said, she became part of a lifestyle “that was very different than my friends at school.”

She went to River Dell High School in Oradell and then attended NYU.

Michaels called the Fairview program “my way of giving back to the community that I grew up in. It is a great atmosphere and a way to get kids involved in learning or discovering a new talent.”
