Road-Rage Murder Update: Baldwin Man Identified As Victim

The man brutally killed by beating after a road rage incident on Saturday, April 15 has been identified as David McKenzie, age 54, of Baldwin, police said. 

26-year-old Patrick Destine was arrested following a car accident and road rage incident where he allegedly kicked another driver in the head continuously. The driver, David McKenzie, age 54, died nearly an hour later, police said.

McKenzie was pronounced dead after 26-year-old Patrick Destine allegedly beat him to death.

The incident occurred when Destine and McKenzie's cars collided. 

Both got out and began to argue verbally, authorities claim, but Destine began to kick  McKenzie in the head violently.

This caused severe head trauma and McKenzie was pronounced dead nearly an hour later.

Destine was arraigned at First District Court on Monday, April 17, and is due to appear again on April 19.

The investigation is ongoing. This story will be updated with any relevant information.

A car accident turned into a brutal killing when the two drivers involved got into a verbal argument that devolved into violence, police said.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Forest Avenue and Schuman Place in Baldwin on the night of Saturday, April 15, according to officers.

Patrick Destine, age 26, of Queens, was allegedly intoxicated when his Infiniti G35 collided with a Honda minivan at approximately 10:50 p.m.

Police reported that after the collision occurred, both Destine and the Honda driver,  a 54-year-old man, exited their vehicles and began to argue verbally.

However, things quickly turned physical.

Destine allegedly began to violently assault the man, kicking him in the head continuously and causing severe head trauma.

Destine was arrested after a short police pursuit on foot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead just after midnight on Sunday, April 16.

Destine is charged with:

  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Second-degree murder

He is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court on Monday, April 17.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
