Lost Duo Rescued From Hiking Preserve In Armonk With Help Of Phone App

Two hikers had to call for help after becoming lost in a Northern Westchester nature preserve for several hours.

Two hikers had to be rescued from the Eugene and Agnes Meyer Nature Preserve after becoming lost for several hours, police said.

The incident happened on Saturday, July 22 just before 5:30 p.m., when authorities received a call from two women who had become lost while hiking in the Eugene and Agnes Meyer Nature Preserve in Armonk.

According to North Castle Police, the women had been lost for around three hours before calling for help.

Once on the phone with authorities, state police had an expert assist the duo with GPS and direct them to head west toward Oregon Road.

North Castle officers were then sent to the preserve entrance on Oregon Road to help locate the hikers.

Shortly after this, authorities directed the women to download an app called "what3words," which assigns a specific combination of three words to locations. The app then helped police pinpoint the duo's exact position.

Once they knew where the hikers were, Bedford Police sent ATV units to help with the effort and soon found the women a half mile from the preserve's Oregon Road entrance.

Both women were found to be uninjured, police said.
