The Strong Start Neighborhood Project was started by the United Way of Western Connecticut to increase the capability and education of families and their children to be ready and successful in kindergarten.
Children from birth to age 5 and their parents or caregivers are invited to join the free Play to Learn Playgroups. The Play to Learn Playgroup program is a hands-on preschool experience where adults stay with their child and play and learn together. Each play group consists of child-centered activities and experiences such as circle time, stories, music, crafts and snack.
It is a great opportunity to get to know other families with young children in the Park Avenue School area and to partner and learn about the Park Ave School.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the families that will be attending my school, to get to know them and the needs of their children," said Dave Krafick, principal of Park Ave School. "I look forward to meeting the new families.”
The Play to Learn Playgroup takes place on Mondays and Thursdays at Park Avenue School from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. and Wednesdays at the Danbury Library from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Pre-registration is not required.
The United Way of Western Connecticut funds the Strong Start Neighborhood Project with support from the Danbury Promise for Children Partnership.
The Danbury Family Learning Center is committed to developing strong families by empowering parents and children to speak, read, play and grow together. It provides free playgroups and activities for children and their families. It also offers parent resources and parent trainings.
