Actually, Megan Quinn now likes both subjects — and she was named a finalist in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Education for her essay on the topic.

In her essay, Quinn wrote about her disdain for math before meeting Noreen Bach, her current math teacher at Broadview Middle School. She said she always had good math teachers, but as the subject became more difficult she liked it less and less.

"Mrs. Bach inspires me,” Quinn said. “She makes learning fun and she’s not too serious. If you don’t understand she pulls you over to a small group table and works to help you understand it more.”

Quinn's essay was one of 10 finalists chosen during Teacher Appreciation Week. She will receive a certificate for the honor.

“She’s my favorite teacher because she respects everybody,” Quinn said of Bach. “She helps all the students. It’s the way she teaches.”
