DANBURY, Conn. — Naugatuck Valley Community College has finalized a lease deal for its new campus location in downtown Danbury, NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis announced Thursday.
NVCC will be moving into the new larger, more modern space in Danbury this fall, she said.
“NVCC is living its mission. We are about access and changing lives by means of offering a quality, affordable education in support of our students and the needs of community and industry partners," De Filippis said in a statement. "I am delighted to expand our campus in Danbury as it thrives as a college community in the downtown area.
"We appreciate the support of Governor Malloy, CSCU President Ojakian, our state partner agencies and our legislative delegation and their assistance in achieving this milestone.”
The new location for the Danbury campus is in the downtown district at 190 Main St., across the street from the Danbury Public Library and the current NVCC Campus. The entrance will be on West Street, just around the corner from Main Street.
The new campus will occupy 20,000 square feet of space, which is over three times the size of the current campus at 183 Main St. Renovations and construction work is continuing this spring to prepare the new location.
The larger space will allow for improved resources for NVCC students who enroll at the Danbury Campus, including additional classrooms; a large lecture space; computer labs; science labs and prep room; a health lab; a large multipurpose room for tutoring, library, and a seasonal bookstore; a student lounge; and faculty and staff offices.
In January, the State Bond Commission approved $2 million to outfit the new Danbury Campus with instruction and laboratory equipment, smart classrooms, IT network equipment and furniture.
The new facility will accommodate both credit and non-credit classes, with substantial capacity for increased enrollment in both areas.
Beginning this fall, the college will substantially increase the number and type of courses offered. Registration for the fall semester begins April 15 for new students.
The college is located on a 110-acre campus at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, and in Danbury at 183 Main St. Visit nv.edu for more information.
