Register Now For Summer Art Classes At WestConn In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. — The Western Connecticut State University Department of Art will offer three month-long art classes and an intensive, one-day workshop at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Ext. in Danbury.

The offerings will include the following: 

  • A summer oil painting workshop, “Introduction through Advanced,” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays in Room 244 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Ed Little will conduct this workshop, open to all levels, that focuses on the materials that are required to paint in oil, how to mix colors, glazes, impasto painting and alla prima painting. The fee is $350 and runs from June 1 through 26.
  • A summer painting workshop, “Painting the Observed World,” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 244 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Christine Hartman will conduct this workshop, open to all levels, that focuses on the development of light, space, color and form. The workshop fee is $350 and runs from June 2 through 25.
  • A summer figure drawing workshop from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 241 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Ed Little will conduct this workshop that will utilize live models as students draw the nude in a variety of poses. The class is recommended for students familiar and experienced with drawing fundamentals, and those with advanced-level drawing experience. The fee is $350 and runs from June 2 through 25.
  • On June 27, a one-day painting workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 248 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Lori Robeau will conduct the workshop for beginners in the ancient molten medium of pigmented wax. The fee is $150; bring a bagged lunch and beverage. 

The registration deadline for these offerings is Friday, May 29. Participation is open to the public.
